Botswana has a policy of catering only to high cost low impact tourism. But there are several types of camping available that budget travellers can utilize.

• Any visitors wishing to be accommodated in the public camping grounds in Chobe National Park, Moremi Game Reserve, Makgadikgadi National Park, and Nzai Pan National Park are required to make advance reservations through Parks and Reservations Officer, PO. Box 20364, Boseja, Maun, Botswana. Tel: (267) 661265; Fax: (267) 661264. The physical location is indicated by signs near the Police Station in Maun. The Reservations Office is open daily including weekends from 7.30am to 4.30pm.

SETTLING ACCOUNTS

Major hotels have foreign currency facilities and most shops, lodges and travel agencies will accept travellers cheques. Rand notes and coins are not legal tender, but rand travellers cheques are accepted by banks and hotels. Visa, Master Card, American Express and Dinners Club credit cards are widely accepted.

TIPPING

In game lodges and camps a gratuity of P2-P3 should be paid to game rangers per game drive or per Mokoro outing.
